Thermal Treatment Process
Thermally treated wood undergoes a specialized process where it’s heated to high temperatures (typically between 180-230°C) in a controlled environment without oxygen. This method alters the wood’s structure, reducing its moisture content, and enhancing its durability, stability, and resistance to decay. The result is a naturally beautiful, eco-friendly product that’s ideal for both indoor and outdoor use, offering a rich color and improved performance without the need for chemicals.
STEAMING
Steam plays a crucial role as a protective gas, displacing oxygen around the wood and preventing combustion. During this phase, the internal structure of the wood changes as hemicellulose—a component that naturally absorbs water—is reduced. This reduction in hemicellulose significantly decreases the wood’s moisture absorption capacity, boosting its resistance to moisture and enhancing its durability.
why thermowood?
Durability: Thermal modification greatly boosts wood’s resistance to decay.
Dimensional Stability: Thermowood cladding & decking experiences minimal swelling and shrinkage, ensuring consistent size and shape.
Improved Weather Resistance: Enhanced weather resistance makes Thermowood cladding & decking suitable for outdoor use in tough climates.
Sustainable and Chemical-Free: The process is chemical-free and uses sustainably sourced Nordic wood, making it eco-friendly.
Improved Insulation: Thermowood cladding & decking offers better thermal insulation than untreated wood.
Low Maintenance: Its durability and rot resistance lead to lower maintenance and cost savings.
No Resin: The process eliminates resins, avoiding leakage issues common with untreated wood.
